Hospitals in Central Nebraska have recently reported several deaths caused by a particularly venomous species of Asian wasp that has made its way to the United States. It is believed that the wasps arrived in Nebraska via a shipment of Japanese crackers to an Asian grocery outlet in McPherson County earlier this spring. These wasps have nearly quadrupled in size and become hyper aggressive due to radiation contamination from the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Their venom is nearly 2000 times stronger than that of the common wasp. Leon Hobbes, member of the Nebraska Medical Research Symposium, reported on these mutant wasps.
